San Dieguito Union High School District

The goal of the San Dieguito Union High School District Nutrition Services Department is to serve nutritious, appetizing, and reasonably priced food to students. We recognize the link between good nutrition and learning and it is our privilege to interact with students on a daily basis to provide healthy choices.

The Nutrition Services Department is a nonprofit $3.2 million business. Over 65 Nutrition services professionals take pride in serving students at 9 different locations. These dedicated employees make sure that over 11,000 students can choose something to eat at a 30 minute lunch. They do it every day, 180 days a year. Truly fast food!

The Nutrition Services Department is an extension of the classroom. Menu items are chosen as carefully as classroom supplies. It is operated under the federally funded National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Federal laws regulating the program are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture through the California Department of Education. The program also complies with state nutrition standards. In accordance with program guidelines, menus can be modified to satisfy medical needs based on a medical authority direction including recommended substitutions. The Nutrition Services Department is self supporting. It maintains a budget that is altogether separate from the district general fund. The Department must generate revenue to cover all of its own expenses including labor, food, supplies, equipment, utilities, and other overhead.
